32,695 new local cases were reported on Thursday, of which 3,041 were symptomatic and 29,654 were asymptomatic. A day ago this number was 31,444.

Hundreds of new infections were reported daily in cities such as Wuhan, Lanzhou, Xi’an, Chengdu, and Jinan.

In Zhengzhou, home to Apple’s largest iPhone production site, 6.6 million people have been told to stay home for the next four days.

In the last 24 hours, the number of new cases of Covid has increased by 31,444. This is the highest daily figure since the coronavirus was first detected in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019.

Although hospitalizations and deaths are low, the Chinese government is committed to a ‘Zero-Covid’ policy that seeks to isolate every case and eradicate the virus completely.

The government is trying to contain the new outbreak without shutting down factories. As of the beginning of 2020, the factories were closed this year. This has led to a protest at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou manufacturing plant. Where more than 20,000 workers have fled due to strict Covid restrictions, Reuters said.

Workers are protesting against strict measures at the world’s largest iPhone factory to prevent the spread of the virus. The factory workers also clashed with the police this week.

Disagreements overpaying workers hired to replace those who left the company led to protests on Tuesday and Wednesday.
