Our beloved Willie Spence of the American Idol family has passed away. We are devastated by his sudden demise. He was a true genius who lit up every room he entered. We send our condolences to their loved ones. This is written in the post on Instagram of American Idol.

Kathryn McPhee, who performed a duet with Spence in Season 19, posted a video on her Instagram story to express her condolences.

“I received very tragic news tonight,” she wrote above a video of her and Spence meeting. “Sweet @williespenceofficial passed away in a car accident. Only 23 years old. Life is so unfair and nothing is ever promised.

“God rest your soul Willie. It was a pleasure to sing with you and to know you.”

Spence received fewer votes than Chase Beckham in the season 19 finale. Still, the judges were impressed with his singing. He sang “Georgia on My Mind,” “A Change Is Gonna Come” and “Stand Up” in the finale.
