Perry High School: Officials say that Thursday morning, a shooting occurred at Perry High School in Iowa, resulting in several injuries.

A teenage shooter has died, according to information from two different sources reported by CBS News. Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infant did not identify the shooter but indicated that they were born in 2006.

Authorities in Dallas County say it’s still unclear how many people were injured and the extent of their injuries in the shooting. Perry High School is located approximately 40 miles northwest of Des Moines. According to Infant, the school had not started when the incident was reported at 7:37 a.m., so there were very few students and staff in the building. Law enforcement responded within 7 minutes upon receiving an active shooter alert from the school.

More information is expected to be available in the afternoon during another press conference. Thursday was the first day back to school after the holiday break, and classes were canceled for the entire day.

The FBI has confirmed that they are monitoring the situation, stating, “FBI Omaha is on the scene at the incident location in cooperation with the criminal investigation of the Iowa Division.”

A White House official has mentioned that President Biden has been briefed on the shooting, and the White House is in contact with the Governor’s office in Iowa.

Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa expressed condolences, stating, “Our hearts are broken by this senseless tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the students, teachers, and families of the Perry community.” She mentioned being in contact with law enforcement and promised to provide updates. A press conference is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Perry has a population of approximately 8,000. The school has around 1,800 students in the district, with approximately 575 in grades 9 through 12.
