Twitter has a lot to do to meet its obligations under Europe’s new platform regulation, the Digital Services Act(DSA). The EU’s digital chief, Thierry Breton, told Musk in a virtual meeting.

“Twitter will have to implement transparent user policies, significantly reinforce content moderation and protect freedom of speech, tackle disinformation with resolve, and limit targeted advertising. All of this requires sufficient AI and human resources, both in volume and skills. I look forward to progress in all these areas and we will come to assess Twitter’s readiness on site.” Thierry Breton said in a statement.

Breton’s office said Elon Musk had agreed to stress test the Twitter platform for DSA compliance early next year.

The new Platform Regulation, DSA, will address how the tech industry handles misinformation and illegal content on social media, as well as illegal goods and services on online marketplaces. Violators of the law can be fined billions.

Twitter hasn’t changed any of its policies since Musk took over the company. The platform’s reliability and security team are strong and well-resourced, Twitter said in a blog post.
