“The Wire” and “John Wick” Star Lance Reddick Dies at 60

Renowned actor Lance Reddick celebrated for his roles in hit TV shows like “The Wire,” “Fringe,” and the “John Wick” franchise, has passed away at the age of 60.

The actor’s publicist, Mia Hansen, confirmed that Reddick died suddenly on Friday due to natural causes. His co-stars, including Wendell Pierce and Keanu Reeves, paid tribute to the late actor, expressing their deep sadness and admiration for his talent.

Reddick was widely recognized for his portrayal of intense and sophisticated authority figures on screen. He played the role of Lt. Cedric Daniels in the critically acclaimed series “The Wire,” where he portrayed a dedicated police officer caught in the political mess of the Baltimore police department. David Simon, the creator of “The Wire,” praised Reddick for his exceptional professionalism and friendship.

In his interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2009, Reddick spoke about the challenges he faced as a Black actor, saying that he had to work hard to prove his talent and be recognized in the industry. Despite the obstacles, he persevered and went on to have a successful career, earning a SAG Award nomination for his role in “One Night in Miami” and playing memorable recurring characters on “Intelligence,” “American Horror Story,” and “Bosch.”

Apart from acting, Reddick was also an accomplished musician, having studied classical composition at the prestigious Eastman School of Music. He released his first album, “Contemplations and Remembrances,” in 2011.

Reddick’s legacy will live on through his upcoming projects, which include the remake of “White Men Can’t Jump,” the biopic of Shirley Chisholm, and the “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina.” He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Reddick, and their children, Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick.

The sudden passing of Lance Reddick is a great loss to the entertainment industry, and his contributions will be deeply missed.
