The 29th edition of the Screen Actors Guild Awards was held at the luxurious Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Sunday, as actors gathered to celebrate some of the best television and film performances of the year. The SAG Awards are unique because they are voted on by the actors themselves, making the ceremony a reflection of the industry’s highest standards.
This year’s ceremony had several standout moments, including the continued momentum of last year’s blockbuster film, “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” The movie’s stars, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ke Huy Quan, won awards in their respective categories, making history in the process. The film also took home the top prize for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
In the television categories, “Abbott Elementary” won the Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Comedy Series Award, while “The White Lotus” took home the Ensemble Cast Award for a Drama Series.
This year’s SAG Awards was a unique experience, with the ceremony live-streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel. The lack of commercial interruptions and occasional profanity allowed for a more casual and enjoyable flow. Beginning in 2024, the SAG Awards will be globally streamed on Netflix.
