Wendy’s Closures Spark Concerns, but Chain Plans Expansion

Wendy's closures across US
Wendy’s restaurants are facing closures across the US, sparking concerns about the future of the popular chain.

According to Wendy’s Q1 earnings call, 27 locations have already shut down in 2024, with plans to close another 100 throughout the year. Despite this, Wendy’s assures that it’s not on the brink of permanent closure. In fact, the chain plans to open more restaurants in the coming year.

Wendy’s anticipates launching between 250 and 300 new locations in 2024, surpassing the number of closures. This suggests a net increase in the number of restaurants despite ongoing closures.

The broader restaurant industry in the US has struggled since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, facing challenges such as inflation and rising product costs. However, despite speculation on social media and the closure of various chains, Wendy’s is not disappearing anytime soon.
