A senior official said that an attacker from the Russian Federation has launched a cyberattack on some major US airports.
Because of this cyber attack, the targeted system cannot handle air traffic control, internal airline communications, coordination, or transportation security.
According to sources, these attacks deny access to public web domains, making it difficult to get flight waiting time and congestion information.
More than a dozen airport websites were affected by the attack, according to John Hultquist, head of intelligence analysis at cybersecurity firm Mandiant. In such a cyber attack, artificial users essentially overload the site by jamming it.
A pro-Russian hacker group called “Killnet” is suspected to be behind the cyber attack. Hultqvist said there is still no evidence that the Russian government was behind the attack.
The Port Authority has informed the Cyber ​​Security and Infrastructure Security Agency that LaGuardia Airport systems have been cyber-attacked. The attacks occurred around 3 a.m. ET. LaGuardia has been reinstated, according to sources. But other airports across the country have since been targeted.
Along with LaGuardia Airport, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Des Moines International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport were also affected by the attack.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport officials said their airport was not affected by the attack.
According to LAX, the FlyLAX.com website was partially disrupted this morning. A limited number of people were affected.
Cyber ​​security experts say “killnet” are known to carry out attacks across Europe. The group operates internationally. Killnet has been active since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. They are targeting countries that help Ukraine.
Engineers and programmers are actively working to close the back doors. So that future attacks can be prevented.
Such jamming attacks are often temporary, Hultquist said. But people have to suffer from it for some time.
