Stanford’s Roisin Willis Makes History With Record-Breaking Win

Stanford’s Roisin Willis just added another major win to her growing list of achievements. She has been named the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

This exciting honor comes just weeks after the rising senior from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, delivered a record-breaking performance at the NCAA Championships.


Breaking Records in Oregon

On June 14, Roisin Willis stunned the track world by winning the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She crossed the finish line in 1:58.13, setting:

  • A meet record
  • A new ACC record
  • Her personal best
  • The third-fastest time in collegiate history

This win marks her first NCAA outdoor title, and her third NCAA championship overall. She previously earned indoor NCAA titles in 2023 in the 800 meters and the distance medley relay.


Scholar-Athlete Excellence

Alongside her athletic triumphs, Roisin Willis continues to shine in academics. She’s a history major and has now been named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year—a title awarded only to the best of the best.

She’s also a:

  • Nine-time All-American
  • Six-time first-team All-American
  • 2022 World U20 champion (800m and 4x400m relay)
  • West Region Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year
  • Semifinalist for The Bowerman – often called the “Heisman of Track and Field”

Stanford Dominates ACC Academic Awards

This year was Stanford’s first year competing in the ACC, and they made an instant impact. Roisin Willis became one of five Stanford athletes to be named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in their respective sports.

To qualify, student-athletes needed:

  • A minimum 3.25 GPA in the last two quarters and overall
  • Participation in the ACC Championships, NCAA Prelims, or NCAA Finals
