Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Williams has officially announced his retirement from the NFL. The veteran wideout informed the Los Angeles Chargers of his decision after being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Mike Williams, once a top-tier deep threat, had a career full of highlight moments. He was originally drafted seventh overall by the Chargers in the 2017 NFL Draft. He quickly became known for his big-play ability. In 2018, he scored 10 touchdowns, and in 2019, he led the NFL by averaging over 20 yards per catch.
Last season, the Steelers traded for Williams just before the deadline. He made an instant impact. In his very first game with Pittsburgh, he caught a game-winning touchdown from Russell Wilson. That clutch grab helped the Steelers defeat the Washington Commanders and made headlines across the league.
However, his time in Pittsburgh was short-lived. He caught only eight more passes for the team. In total, Williams finished the 2024 season with just 21 receptions, split between the Steelers and the New York Jets.
Over his NFL career, Mike Williams recorded 330 catches and 32 touchdowns. His size, speed, and ability to stretch the field made him a valuable asset for any offense during his prime.
At age 30, Mike Williams walks away from the game with plenty of memorable moments. While injuries may have cut his final season short, fans will always remember him for his deep-threat plays and game-winning grabs.
