The New Orleans Pelicans are locking in one of their best defenders. Forward Herbert Jones has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $68 million contract extension, according to multiple sources on Thursday.
The 26-year-old had nearly $29 million left on his previous four-year, $53.8 million deal. His new contract includes a player option for the 2029-30 season, giving him future flexibility.
Herbert Jones missed most of last season due to shoulder surgery. He played only 20 games after undergoing a procedure in February to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Despite the setback, the Pelicans have shown strong faith in his future.
Before the injury, Herbert Jones averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. His defensive efforts didn’t go unnoticed — he was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for the 2023-24 season. He recorded 105 steals and a career-high 62 blocks in that campaign.
