The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed star reliever Edwin Diaz to a three-year, $69 million contract after he opted out of his deal with the Mets. His new $23 million average salary is now the highest ever for an MLB reliever, though he will defer part of it to reduce the Dodgers’ tax hit.
With this move, the Dodgers’ projected payroll jumps to about $342 million, the largest in the league. The Mets will receive a compensatory draft pick, while the Dodgers will lose two draft picks and international bonus money. Edwin Diaz leaves New York after seven seasons and joins L.A. following a strong 2024 season with 28 saves and 98 strikeouts in 66 innings.
