Jeff Bezos reclaimed his position on Thursday after briefly ceding the title of wealthiest person in the U.S. to Musk on Monday. This shift occurred following a surge in Tesla’s stock, which propelled Musk ahead of Bezos, making him approximately $25 billion richer within a span of just six days.
As of noon EDT on Thursday, Jeff Bezos’ estimated net worth had increased by about $2.5 billion, while Musk’s fortune had decreased by approximately $276 million, according to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaire List.
The current wealthiest person in the world remains Bernard Arnault of LVMH, with an estimated net worth of $206.9 billion as of Thursday morning.
Amazon’s stock saw a rise of 1.84% at noon EDT on Thursday, while Tesla’s share price experienced a comparatively smaller increase of about 0.08%.
The ongoing battle for the position of the world’s second-wealthiest person has seen Jeff Bezos and Musk exchanging places multiple times over the past few months. They switched positions at least 13 times in March alone.
Prior to March, Musk consistently held either the first or second spot on Forbes’ real-time billionaire rankings, with March 6 marking the first time since August 19, 2021, that he dropped out of the top two.
Jeff Bezos saw a resurgence in wealth earlier this year, while Musk’s fortune has fluctuated amid challenges faced by Tesla, including recent announcements of staff layoffs. These factors have contributed to the continuous back-and-forth between the two billionaires.
