Luka Modrić to Join AC Milan in August, Allegri Confirms

AC Milan’s new coach Massimiliano Allegri confirms Luka Modrić’s arrival in August after the Club World Cup. Squad revamp includes departures of Reijnders and Hernàndez. Serie A kicks off on August 23.

Luka Modrić Confirmed for AC Milan

AC Milan’s newly appointed coach Massimiliano Allegri announced on July 7 that Luka Modrić, the 39‑year‑old Croatian and former Real Madrid captain, will arrive in Milan in August, after completing his stint in the Club World Cup. Modrić, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner, is ending his 13‑year reign at Real Madrid.

Allegri praised him as “an extraordinary player who needs no introduction,” underlining his expected influence at the San Siro.

Club World Cup & Final Madrid Game

Real Madrid are set to face Paris Saint‑Germain in the Club World Cup semi‑final on July 9, with the final on July 13, ahead of Modrić’s departure.

AC Milan’s Squad Overhaul

Allegri emphasized a fresh start post their 8th-place finish and absence from European competition.

Departures:

  • Tijjani Reijnders completed a €55 m (£46.3 m) transfer to Manchester City in June, ending his two‑year stay.
  • Left-back Theo Hernández is reportedly heading to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

What’s Staying:

  • Goalkeeper Mike Maignan and forward Rafael Leão are expected to remain under Allegri.

Season Kick‑Off & Allegri’s Vision

AC Milan will resume Serie A action on August 23 against Cremonese at home.

Allegri, Milan’s manager from 2010–14, urged fans to support the team daily, saying, “the only way to regain respect is through responsibility and achieving results”.

Why This Matters

  • Modrić brings deep experience: 28 major trophies, including six Champions League titles at Real Madrid.
  • Milan is revamping aggressively—Allegri aims to bring back European football and restore club pride.
  • Reijnders’ departure leaves midfield space for Modrić and other signings like Ricci, Loftus‑Cheek, Fofana, and Bondo.
