In a quarterfinal match at the Australian Open, Alexander Zverev secured a victory over No. 2-ranked Carlos Alcaraz.

Zverev, the sixth seed, dominated the first two sets with a score of 6-1, 6-3, but faced some resistance from Alcaraz in the third set, losing in a tiebreaker.

However, Zverev regrouped and closed out the match with a 6-4 win in the fourth set.

This marked Zverev's first Grand Slam victory over a top-five player, earning him a spot in the semifinals for the seventh time in major tournaments.

Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam match last year, was unable to repeat the feat at the Australian Open.

Zverev's reward for the win is a semifinal clash against two-time finalist Daniil Medvedev.

Medvedev secured his place in the semis with a challenging four-hour victory over Hubert Hurkacz.

Zverev acknowledged the tough competition he expects from Medvedev, expressing hope that this tournament might be the place for him to turn the tide in their recent matchups.

Despite facing a late challenge from Alcaraz in the third set, Zverev commended his ability to fight back in the fourth set and secure the win after midnight local time.
