Wyndham Clark emerged as the champion of the 2023 US Open, securing America's first major victory in golf.

In a thrilling final round, Clark outshone Rory McIlroy to claim the title with a one-stroke advantage.

Clark, a relatively unknown player, showcased exceptional skill and composure, finishing the tournament at 10-under overall.

His triumph coincided with Father's Day, but he dedicated the victory to his late mother, who had encouraged him to "play big."

The win earned him $3.6 million from the record-breaking $20 million prize purse, the highest ever in major championships.

While McIlroy fell short in his pursuit of a fifth major title, he remains optimistic.

Rickie Fowler, initially tied for the lead, experienced a disappointing slide on the final day.

Scottie Scheffler secured third place, followed by Cameron Smith in fourth.

The next major championship, The Open Championship, is set to begin in July.
