Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova and British tennis star Cameron Norrie have both pulled out of the upcoming U.S. Open. The announcement was made by the USTA on Friday. Both players are currently recovering from injuries that also forced them to skip the Paris Olympics.
Vondrousova, who hails from the Czech Republic, had to sit out the Games due to a hand injury. She was aiming to recover in time for the final Grand Slam of the year, which kicks off on August 26 in New York.
Norrie, ranked as Britain’s number two, withdrew from the Olympics because of a forearm injury. His best performance at the U.S. Open was in 2022 when he reached the fourth round.
On Instagram, Norrie shared his plans to rest and recover fully before returning to competition. “I’ll take some rest and recharge,” he wrote. “I can’t wait to get back to competing with the tenacity of a dog.”
Both players are hoping to make a full recovery soon and return to the court in top form. Their absence will be felt at the U.S. Open, but fans are eagerly awaiting their comeback.
