The 2024 Presidents Cup teams are taking shape, with half of both the U.S. and International squads now secured. As some American golfers make a final push to catch their captain’s eye, the competition is heating up.
After the BMW Championship, six players from both the U.S. and International teams secured their spots for the biannual event. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler unsurprisingly led the U.S. Team standings, finishing over 4,000 points ahead of Xander Schauffele. Joining them are Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, and Sahith Theegala. Notably, Clark and Theegala will be making their Presidents Cup debuts this year.
On the International side, Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, a seasoned veteran with five previous Presidents Cup appearances, leads the charge. The team also includes South Korea’s Tom Kim, Sungjae Im, and Byeong Hun An, alongside Australia’s Jason Day and Adam Scott.
The final team rosters will be revealed on September 3, when U.S. captain Jim Furyk and International captain Mike Weir of Canada announce their six captain’s picks. The much-anticipated event is set to take place from September 26-29 at Royal Montreal Golf Club.
Furyk faces a tough decision with his selections. Sam Burns, who tied for second at the BMW Championship, climbed four spots to seventh in the standings. Although he couldn’t surpass Theegala, Burns made a strong case for his inclusion.
Keegan Bradley, the recently named captain of the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup team, also impressed with a victory at the BMW Championship, vaulting him to 10th in the standings. At 38, Bradley’s win serves as a reminder that he can still compete at the highest level, which might earn him a spot on the team.
Other potential U.S. picks include Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Brian Harman, Max Homa, Chris Kirk, and Justin Thomas.
For the International team, Weir has a wide range of talent to consider. With Canada hosting the event, several Canadian players, such as Corey Conners, Nick Taylor, Adam Hadwin, Taylor Pendrith, and Mackenzie Hughes, are likely contenders for captain’s picks. Australians Min Woo Lee and Cam Davis, South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout, and South Korea’s Si Woo Kim are also in the mix.
As the final selections approach, both teams are eagerly preparing for what promises to be a thrilling Presidents Cup.
