Italian Alpine Skier Matilde Lorenzi Dies at 19 After Training Accident

In a devastating accident, 19-year-old Italian alpine skier Matilde Lorenzi has tragically passed away following a training session in northern Italy.

The incident took place on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales, where Lorenzi was training with the Italian Army’s sports division, according to reports from Italy’s winter sports federation (FISI).

Following her fall, emergency services transported Lorenzi to a nearby hospital. Despite their efforts, Lorenzi could not be saved. Italy’s Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, offered heartfelt condolences, honoring Lorenzi’s contributions and dedication. “The Defence Ministry and I extend our deepest sympathies to the family and teammates of Corporal Matilde Lorenzi,” he expressed on social media platform X.

The Italian winter sports community has been deeply affected by the loss of Lorenzi, a promising young athlete whose skills and spirit had become a source of pride. FISI also released a statement, saying, “FISI is in mourning. Our hearts go out to Matilde’s family, friends, and everyone who cherished her memory.”

As the skiing world pays tribute, Lorenzi’s legacy as a talented and determined skier will live on among those she inspired.
