Lewis Hamilton, a five-time Italian Grand Prix winner, is gearing up for a different experience at Monza this weekend. This will be his last race with Mercedes before he moves to Ferrari next season. Speaking on Thursday, Hamilton shared his feelings about the upcoming race.
The legendary driver, who confirmed his switch to Ferrari in February, is excited about racing in front of the passionate Italian fans. “I’m not going to lie, it does feel a little bit different this time,” Hamilton said. “Coming here always feels special, especially with the incredible weather today and the big changes made to the track.”
Hamilton praised the unique energy at Monza, saying, “The passion and excitement from the fans here is unmatched in many places.”
Hamilton is uncertain about the kind of welcome he will receive, but he remains optimistic. “I don’t know what to expect this weekend,” he admitted. “But I’ve always had a warm reception from the Monza crowd. Even when we were really fighting against Ferrari, they were still positive.”
He added, “I’ve heard the phrase ‘viene in Ferrari’ (which means ‘come to Ferrari’) quite often.” It will be interesting to see how it feels this year. I already got a warm welcome at Imola.”
This weekend will also be significant for 18-year-old Italian Kimi Antonelli, who will make his Formula 1 practice debut with Mercedes. Antonelli is expected to replace Hamilton when he leaves.
“I believe he’s the top choice for the team’s future,” Hamilton said. “However, he’s only turning 18, so we should keep in mind that he has a promising future ahead. I’m excited to watch his development.”
As Hamilton prepares for this unique race at Monza, he looks forward to his future with Ferrari and what lies ahead in the world of Formula 1.
