Sergi Roberto, the former Barcelona captain, has signed a two-year contract with newly-promoted Serie A club Como. The Italian club announced the exciting news on Friday.
Sergi Roberto, who spent his entire career at Barcelona, joined the club’s academy at just 14 years old. After his contract with the Spanish giants ended last season, he made the move to Como as a free agent.
Cesc Fabregas, Como’s manager and Sergi Roberto’s former Barcelona teammate, shared his excitement about the new signing. “Sergi has played for one of the world’s top clubs. He’s a versatile player who can fit into multiple positions—midfield, full-back.
His accurate passing and strength make him the perfect box-to-box player. His experience will be vital for us this season,” Fabregas said on the club’s website.
Sergi Roberto, now 32, has an impressive career record. He won seven La Liga titles and two Champions League trophies during his time at Barcelona. He also represented Spain in 11 matches, scoring one goal.
Como, managed by Fabregas, returned to Serie A last season after a 21-year absence. The club has been active in the transfer market, recently signing notable players such as former Real Madrid and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane and former Italy striker Andrea Belotti.
Sergi Roberto’s arrival adds another layer of experience and skill to the ambitious Serie A side as they prepare for a challenging season ahead.
