Mounir Nasraoui, father of the rising soccer star Lamine Yamal, was reportedly stabbed late Wednesday in Mataro, a town in northeastern Spain. The incident took place in a parking lot, according to a report by La Vanguardia.
Mounir Nasraoui was rushed to Can Ruti hospital in Badalona, where his condition was described as serious. However, another report from Relevo later stated that he had been released from the hospital and was now recovering at home.
Police from both local and regional forces have reportedly spoken to several witnesses. However, official comments from the Mossos d’Esquadra police force and Mataro local government were not immediately available.
Lamine Yamal, who is quickly becoming a household name in soccer, grew up in Mataro, a working-class suburb of Barcelona. The 17-year-old recently made headlines by helping Spain win Euro 2024 in Germany. He scored a crucial goal against France in the semifinals on July 9.
The news of this attack on his father has shocked many, adding a somber note to what has otherwise been a celebratory time for Yamal and his family.
