German midfielder Marco Reus has officially joined LA Galaxy, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, as announced on Thursday.
The 35-year-old left Borussia Dortmund at the end of the last season after spending 12 years with the Bundesliga giants. Reus now embarks on a new chapter in his career, joining the American side as a free agent. His final game for Dortmund was marked by a tough loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in June.
Marco Reus, a two-time Bundesliga Footballer of the Year, brings a wealth of experience and skill to LA Galaxy. General Manager Will Kuntz expressed excitement about Reus’s arrival, emphasizing the midfielder’s significance to the club’s ongoing project. Kuntz highlighted that signing a player of Reus’s caliber, who spent his entire career in Germany, reflects the ambition and vision of LA Galaxy.
During his time with Dortmund, Marco Reus scored an impressive 170 goals in 429 appearances. He captained the team for five years until 2023 and won two German Cups. Additionally, Reus contributed 15 goals in 48 appearances for the German national team.
LA Galaxy coach Greg Vanney praised Marco Reus as a proven winner and leader, confident that his talent and vision would seamlessly integrate into the team as they prepare for the league restart and push for the playoffs.
Currently leading the Western Conference, LA Galaxy’s next match is at home against Atlanta United on August 25. With this new deal, Reus is set to stay with the club until the end of the 2026 season.
