Manchester United has successfully completed the signing of Manuel Ugarte, a talented midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), in a deal potentially worth up to €60 million. The deal includes an initial payment of $55.3 million, with up to $11 million in possible add-ons, according to ESPN.
Manuel Ugarte, a 23-year-old Uruguay international, has signed a five-year contract with Manchester United, with an option for a further year. He joins Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee as the latest additions to the club this summer.
Manuel Ugarte previously played for Portuguese sides Sporting Lisbon and Famalicão and began his career with Fénix in Uruguay. He made his debut for the Uruguay national team in 2021 and has since earned 22 caps.
Dan Ashworth, Manchester United’s sporting director, expressed his excitement over the signing. “Ashworth said, ‘Signing Manuel was one of our top priorities this summer.” “He is among the best ball-winning midfielders in the world and brings a wealth of experience at both club and international levels. His skills, passion, and experience will be a great fit for our midfield.”
Ashworth added, “Manuel is a player we have monitored closely, and we believe he will have a positive impact both on the pitch and in the dressing room as we push for further success.”
Manuel Ugarte is equally enthusiastic about joining Manchester United.”It feels incredible to join such a prestigious club that is admired worldwide,” Ugarte said. “The vision presented to me by the club’s leadership is thrilling. Manchester United is an ambitious club, and I am an ambitious player.”
Last season, Manuel Ugarte made 37 appearances for PSG, including 25 in Ligue 1, showcasing his talent and versatility in midfield.
On the same deadline day, Manchester United also secured the signing of Sekou Kone, an 18-year-old midfielder from Malian club Guidars FC. Additionally, Scott McTominay, a fellow midfielder, completed his transfer from Old Trafford to Napoli.
Manchester United’s transfer activity reflects a strategic approach to strengthen the squad as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
