Conor Gallagher feels right at home after a warm welcome from Atletico Madrid fans. The England midfielder expressed his excitement during his presentation at the Metropolitano Stadium on Friday.
Just days before, he completed his transfer from Chelsea, signing a five-year contract with the LaLiga giants.
Conor Gallagher, who joined Chelsea at just six years old, made the switch to Atletico Madrid in a deal reportedly worth $46.94 million. The 24-year-old was introduced to the fans alongside other new signings on Wednesday at the Metropolitano Stadium. The event was headlined by former Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.
Conor Gallagher said, “The fans’ welcome was incredible.” “I enjoyed every moment. It’s a great sign of the support to come. The fans made me feel at home, and I can’t wait to play in this stadium and give my all in every game.”
Despite the move taking longer than expected, Conor Gallagher remained optimistic. He said, “I always wanted to join Atletico, and the club wanted me too. I was confident it would work out, and I’m really happy to be here.”
A major factor in Gallagher’s decision was Atletico manager Diego Simeone. “He’s one of the best in the world,” Gallagher said. “I’m excited to play under him. I think I fit well with his style. He appreciates my work ethic. The first few days have been tough because of the heat, but I’m getting used to it.”
Conor Gallagher is also eager to adapt to life in Spain. “I’m excited about everything—not just playing for this great club, but also living in a new country,” he said. “I need to learn Spanish quickly. It will help me on the pitch and with my coach.”
