Arsenal’s captain, Martin Odegaard, could be sidelined for several weeks following an ankle injury he sustained during Norway’s Nations League win over Austria on Monday. The injury forced Odegaard to leave the pitch and use crutches as he returned to London for further scans.
The Norwegian team doctor, Ola Sand, shared insights on the injury’s severity. “Ankle injuries like this often require at least three weeks to heal. Anything quicker would be unexpected. In some cases, recovery can take even longer,” Sand told Norway’s VG. “The pain was intense for Martin, which understandably made him quite concerned.”
Initial MRI results suggest there’s no fracture, which is a positive sign. A fracture would mean a recovery time of six weeks or more. Despite this, Odegaard’s injury is still significant, especially for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who will also be without midfielder Declan Rice due to suspension.
Martin Odegaard has been a crucial player for Arsenal, missing only a few Premier League games in the past three seasons. His potential absence is a considerable setback for Arteta, especially with new signing Mikel Merino also out with a shoulder fracture.
Sand emphasized the importance of Martin Odegaard’s rehabilitation. “The crucial factor now is how well he responds to the treatment.” We’ll start with gentle exercises and gradually increase as his pain allows.”
Arsenal will face Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday and then kick off their Champions League campaign against Atalanta next Thursday.
