The Dallas Cowboys are set to bring in former New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson, as reported by ESPN on Thursday. The 29-year-old pass rusher recently showcased his skills in Oxnard, California, after the Cowboys faced a setback, losing Sam Williams to a torn ACL earlier in training camp.
Carl Lawson signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Jets back in 2021. Unfortunately, he missed the entire season due to a torn Achilles tendon. However, he made a strong comeback in 2022, starting all 17 games and recording seven sacks and 24 quarterback hits.
Last season, though, he found it difficult to make an impact. Carl Lawson was limited to just six games with no starts, dealing with a back injury and eventually falling out of the rotation. He ended the season without any sacks and only five tackles.
Carl Lawson, who was a fourth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017, has accumulated 27 sacks, 107 quarterback hits, and 119 tackles over 74 career games. His experience with both the Bengals (2017-20) and the Jets (2022-23) makes him a seasoned veteran in the NFL.
This signing marks the second significant move by the Cowboys to strengthen their defensive line this week. Earlier, they acquired defensive tackle Jordan Phillips in a trade with the New York Giants on Wednesday.
The addition of Carl Lawson brings more depth and experience to the Cowboys’ defense, a crucial element as they prepare for the upcoming season.
