On Friday night in Dallas, several Los Angeles Chargers players, along with other members of their group, faced an unexpected challenge. Around 7:30 p.m. local time, they got stuck in a hotel elevator at The Westin in downtown Dallas.
The elevator stopped in a “blind shaft” between the third and 15th floors, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue. A technician tried to fix the issue but couldn’t get the elevator moving. This led to the arrival of Dallas Fire-Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue team.
With the help of Dallas Fire-Rescue, the trapped Chargers players and staff escaped by climbing through a ceiling panel to an adjacent elevator. Each person was rescued “one by one” in a carefully coordinated effort.
The Chargers expressed their gratitude in a social media post, thanking Dallas Fire-Rescue for their quick response, professionalism, and dedication to safety.
While the incident involved about 15 people, it wasn’t immediately clear which Chargers players were in the elevator. However, a source told ESPN that Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh invited the Dallas Fire-Rescue staff to join the team for a meal afterward, showing appreciation for their efforts.
The Los Angeles Chargers are in town to wrap up their preseason against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday at AT&T Stadium. They will kick off the regular season at home on September 8th against the Las Vegas Raiders.
This incident was certainly not part of the game plan, but thanks to the swift action of Dallas Fire-Rescue, everyone emerged safely and ready to face the Cowboys.
