The Broncos have made some roster moves following the official announcement of their Undrafted Free Agent (UDFA) signings. With a limit of 90 players for the offseason, they needed to make room by releasing two players.
The team has now confirmed the release of wide receiver Phillip Dorsett and defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence.
Phillip Dorsett joined the Broncos last August on a practice squad deal after not making the cut for the Raiders’ 53-man roster during training camp. Despite being a former first-round pick, Dorsett only played in two games for the Broncos in 2023, catching just one pass.
This release marks his departure from his seventh NFL team. Dorsett, now 31, previously showcased his skills with the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots, notably recording a career-high 528 receiving yards in 2017. However, he has struggled to replicate that success since then, with his most recent notable performance being in 2022 with the Houston Texans.
On the other hand, Rashard Lawrence, aged 25, has had a more tumultuous journey through the NFL. Drafted by the Cardinals in the fourth round, he started 13 games with them between 2020 and 2022.
However, he failed to secure a spot on the Cardinals’ roster under the coaching of Jonathan Gannon in 2023. He then found himself on the practice squads of the Dolphins, Panthers, and Texans before landing a reserve/futures contract with the Broncos in January.
