The Houston Texans have secured backup quarterback Davis Mills with a one-year contract extension that will last until the end of the 2025 NFL season, according to reports from Tuesday.
This deal also features performance-based incentives related to his playing time, as noted by NFL Network.
Davis Mills, 25, will continue to serve as a backup to C.J. Stroud, the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year from last season. Stroud, drafted No. 2 overall in 2023, has taken on the starting role, while Mills will provide support.
Drafted by the Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Davis Mills stepped into the starting position due to Deshaun Watson’s legal troubles and again in 2022 after Watson’s trade to the Cleveland Browns. Over those two seasons, Mills started 26 games and won five.
In his 34-game career so far, Mills has completed 62.8% of his passes for 5,955 yards, with 35 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. He led the NFL with 15 interceptions in 2022.
