Arsenal has secured Raheem Sterling from Chelsea on a season-long loan, the clubs announced on Friday.

Raheem Sterling, who has three years left on his Chelsea contract, was considered surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. Despite earlier links to Manchester United, he completed his move to Arsenal just before the summer transfer window closed.

This transfer aligns with reports from ESPN that Chelsea is finalizing a deal to bring Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho on loan.

Although Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had recently downplayed the possibility of signing Raheem Sterling, he praised the forward’s character. Arteta and Sterling previously worked together for three years at Manchester City.

Arsenal has been actively seeking attacking reinforcements and was also exploring options for Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman.

Raheem Sterling’s arrival follows Arsenal’s decision to loan out Reiss Nelson to Fulham for the season. The club sees Sterling as a valuable upgrade over Nelson.

In addition to Sterling, Arsenal has signed Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on a season-long loan. At 35, Neto is set to be a backup for first-choice keeper David Raya. This move allows Aaron Ramsdale to finalize his transfer to Southampton, with the deal reportedly worth up to $33 million including add-ons, as noted by ESPN.
