Manchester United’s midfielder, Mason Mount, will miss a few matches after suffering a minor muscle injury. The Premier League club confirmed the news on Thursday. This comes as a setback ahead of United’s crucial game against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Mason Mount, 25, started both of United’s league matches this season. However, he was substituted at halftime in the recent 2-1 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion. Mount later revealed on social media that he had picked up the injury during that match.
The former Chelsea player, who joined Manchester United in July 2023 for a fee of around £55 million ($72.48 million), had a challenging season last year with multiple injuries limiting his appearances to just 20. “During the last game, I picked up a minor muscle issue,” Mount shared on social media. “I got it checked, and it seems I’ll be out for a few games.”
The club is also dealing with several other injury concerns. Manchester United’s Mason Mount, along with other key players, will miss a few games due to injuries, impacting the team ahead of their match against Liverpool at Old Trafford this Sunday.
Forward Rasmus Hojlund, along with defenders Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, and Victor Lindelof, are also ruled out for Sunday’s match against Liverpool.
Mason Mount’s injury history has been a concern. Last season, he suffered a hamstring injury in August and then a calf injury in November, which kept him out for four months. After returning, he managed only eight more appearances.
“I worked hard to regain my fitness during pre-season,” Mason stated. “I felt re-energized, sharp, and ready. It’s frustrating to be back on the sidelines, but I’ll do everything possible to return in the best shape to help the team.”
Mason Mount’s absence also means he will not be part of interim manager Lee Carsley’s squad for England’s upcoming Nations League matches against Ireland in Dublin on September 7 and Finland at Wembley three days later.
