Netflix has announced that its latest sports series, Starting 5, will premiere on October 9. This new docuseries follows five NBA superstars through their 2023–24 seasons, capturing their personal and professional journeys.

The series will feature Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James, Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, and Sacramento Kings’ Domantas Sabonis. Fans can expect a close-up look at the highs and lows of these athletes’ careers, as well as their off-court lives.

Much of the show is likely to spotlight Jayson Tatum and the Celtics’ push for an NBA championship. Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves are also expected to be featured prominently after their strong postseason performance.

Meanwhile, LeBron James’ Lakers made it to the playoffs but were knocked out in the first round. Unfortunately, the Heat and the Kings fell short of postseason action.

On Wednesday, Netflix released a teaser showing the five players chatting in a group text, offering a sneak peek into the dynamics that will unfold over the 10-episode series.

Starting 5 is produced by a powerhouse team, including Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions, Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground, and LeBron James’ Uninterrupted.

While Netflix has ventured into sports docuseries before, such as the NFL’s Quarterback and Receiver, Formula 1’s Drive to Survive, and golf’s Full Swing, Starting 5 marks its first deep dive into the world of the NBA.

Basketball fans won’t want to miss this unique look at their favorite stars!
