Hideki Matsuyama has been battling back and neck injuries for several years. Unfortunately, his lower back pain resurfaced during his warm-up on Friday morning, making it impossible for him to continue playing.
This setback comes on the heels of Hideki Matsuyama’s recent success. Last week, he claimed his 10th PGA Tour title by winning the FedEx St. Jude Championship. This victory catapulted him into third place in the FedEx Cup standings, securing a strong position for next week’s Tour Championship. The winner of that event will receive a $25 million bonus.
The PGA Tour announced Hideki Matsuyama’s withdrawal just before his scheduled tee time. Later, a statement from the 32-year-old Japanese golfer, currently ranked No. 6 in the world, was released.
“I am disappointed to withdraw from the BMW Championship due to lower back discomfort during my warm-up this morning. “It made playing impossible,” Hideki Matsuyama said. He also expressed gratitude to BMW and the Western Golf Association for the experience at Castle Pines.
This injury may hinder his momentum, but Matsuyama’s strong standing in the FedEx Cup points to his resilience and skill on the course. Golf fans will be watching closely as he prepares for the upcoming Tour Championship.
