Manchester City started their Premier League title defense with a strong 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday. The game, held at Stamford Bridge, saw the defending champions take control early, setting the pace for the season ahead.

The opening goal came from none other than Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker, known for his incredible goal-scoring record, added another to his tally, bringing him to 91 goals in just 100 appearances for Manchester City. In the 18th minute, Haaland broke through Chelsea’s defense, skillfully chipping the ball over the advancing goalkeeper. His goal was a clear reminder of his dominance on the pitch.

Manchester City’s second goal came late in the match. Mateo Kovačić secured the win with a powerful shot from outside the box in the 84th minute. Although City didn’t display their usual attacking fluidity, they managed to get the job done efficiently.

City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, expressed his admiration for Haaland’s consistent performance. He compared Haaland’s goal-scoring record to that of football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Guardiola said, “When it comes to numbers, he’s at that level. Scoring 91 goals in 100 Premier League games is incredible.”

Haaland, despite being quiet for some periods during the match, proved his worth when it mattered most. His first goal of the new season showcased his blend of physical strength and calmness in front of the goal. Haaland’s solid preseason has put him in peak condition, a fact that should worry City’s rivals.

On the other hand, Chelsea has a lot to worry about. The club is in a state of uncertainty, with a large and unsettled squad. New manager Enzo Maresca has a tough task ahead to bring harmony to the team. The situation was highlighted when Raheem Sterling, one of Chelsea’s key players, was left out of the squad, leading to a public request for clarity.

As Chelsea prepares to face Wolves next, they need to address their internal issues quickly. Meanwhile, Manchester City will aim to keep their winning momentum going as they take on newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday.

The start of the season shows that City, led by Haaland’s brilliance, is ready to defend their title with determination.
