Will Levis: ESPN analyst and former Shelton High quarterback Dan Orlovsky recently shared his ranking of NFL quarterbacks, spotlighting their various skills. One name that stood out was Tennessee Titans’ Will Levis, a fellow Connecticut native.
Will Levis, a graduate of Xavier High, earned the No. 6 spot for arm strength. Orlovsky, who played for UConn before moving on to a 12-year NFL career, detailed his criteria for arm strength. The two main factors were throwing deep downfield—completing passes of 55-60 yards—and the ability to “fit the ball into tight windows with zip,” particularly on 15-20 yard throws into a small strike zone.
Orlovsky praised Levis for his performance during the Titans’ victory against the Miami Dolphins in Week 14 last season. He noted, “Will Levis can throw the ball accurately because he has a strong arm.”
Will Levis was selected by Tennessee with the 33rd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. After Ryan Tannehill suffered an ankle injury in Week 8, Levis made his NFL debut, throwing for 238 yards and four touchdowns in a 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons. By Week 10, former Titans’ coach Mike Vrabel had named Levis the team’s starting quarterback.
Levis, who grew up in Madison, ended his rookie season with 1,808 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions, completing 149 of 255 passes.
During his time at Xavier High School, Levis set records for passing touchdowns (27) and passing yards (2,793) as a senior. He then spent two years at Penn State before transferring to Kentucky.
In his first season at Kentucky, Levis completed 66% of his passes for 2,826 yards, scoring 24 touchdowns but also throwing 13 interceptions. His next season saw him throw for 2,406 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with a 65.4% completion rate.
Orlovsky, who starred as a quarterback for the Huskies from 2001 to 2004, joined ESPN after retiring in 2017. His NFL experience gives him a keen eye for talent, making his praise of Levis all the more significant.
Levis now looks to build on a promising start, and with Orlovsky’s endorsement, all eyes are on him as the Titans prepare for the upcoming season.
